I got some watercolour paints for Christmas so I’ve been mucking about a bit. You might recognize these handsome fellows from ParaNorman which was in cinemas earlier this year. If you haven’t seen it you should drop whatever you’re doing and go watch it now because it is awesomely brilliant!! For reals.

I’ve been trying to improve my drawing recently so here are some sketches I did yesterday. Top right is a sketch of my mum and sister watching a film and the rest are drawings of people from The Sartorialist website. Everyone on that site is on their mobile phone, seriously! Such trendy, good-looking people though.

I need to do more drawings from life but when I can’t get out, The Sartorialist is pretty good. Plus they don’t just walk off when you’re half-way through. There are a few scribbles up there beside the long-legged lady from before, when I was trying to sketch people walking past my Costa Coffee vantage point. Not terribly successful. Must practice!!

This week I made a bird puppet for the monthly “Creative Challenge” hosted by LAIKA house, the amazingly fantastic studio behind Paranorman and Coraline. He’s a Moustache Bird (to tie in with this month’s Movember theme) made from wire and foam as well as rather a lot of feathers and bits of earrings.

I just finished my sculpt of this viking based on this drawing by Nico Marlet. It’s from the Dreamworks ”Art of How To Train Your Dragon” book. I love all the character designs and concept drawings in it and I thought this one would make a good sculpture.

I wanted to try turning a 2D design into a 3D model so I made this guy out of Super Sculpey with a coat of grey primer. I’ll hopefully get around to doing a digital paint of it to see what it’d be like in colour.

It was gloriously sunny today so I headed into the city centre to visit the Natural History Museum for some drawing. It wasn’t too busy as most people seemed to have the right idea to stay outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. I got a few drawings of skulls done and one of the hippopotamus skeleton. I never realised what horrible teeth hippos have! They stick out every which way and grind off each other to keep them razor sharp. Scary stuff!

Here’s a screenshot from my new stop motion short, The Princess and the Peas. It’s not online just yet as I think it needs some sort of musical soundtrack, so I’ve sent it to my dad to see what he can come up with. In the meantime here is Penny looking none-too-thilled about having to eat peas for dinner. As you can see, the film is 1 min 45 seconds in length so just a tiny bit longer than my last one!
