I just finished my sculpt of this viking based on this drawing by Nico Marlet. It’s from the Dreamworks ”Art of How To Train Your Dragon” book. I love all the character designs and concept drawings in it and I thought this one would make a good sculpture.
I wanted to try turning a 2D design into a 3D model so I made this guy out of Super Sculpey with a coat of grey primer. I’ll hopefully get around to doing a digital paint of it to see what it’d be like in colour.
I’ve started shooting on the main set and it is sloooooow going! Lousy part-time job is sucking up my precious animation time. Hopefully I’ll get it all done in time for my deadline. *fingers crossed*
Picture frame made from Sculpey, primed and ready to paint. This hangs on the dining room wall in my animation.
I’ve been hand painting peas today. Planning to start shooting tomorrow :)
I made some miniature bunting for the bedroom set today with some origami paper I forgot I had.
My stop-motion animation short is now up on Vimeo.
I finished my film! :D
I can’t believe it’s only been a month since I started on it. It really feels like longer. Just about got it done in time for the deadline with some post-production help from my more computer-literate friends.
It’s only a little more than a minute long but it’s going to be shown at the Barbican in London next week after a screening of Jason and the Argonauts and before an animation panel event. Nick Park is gonna be there! So excited! Anyway, it will be online after the event so I’ll be linking it absolutely everywhere.
For now, here’s a shot of my tiny man and hill monster where they currently reside on my desk.
Making progress with my stop-motion project.
Little character I’ve made for my stop-mo animation short. I came runner-up in the Ray Harryhausen Scrapbook Animation Competition so I won the chance to make my animation and have it screened at the Barbican in London, along with some other awesome prizes :D Wheee! Delighted! I posted the storyboard here a while back, if you want to see the story I’m making.
So my little man is mostly finished. Today I’m making a latex cast of the hill and tree trunk. I sculpted them in clay on Tuesday and made a plaster mould which I cleaned out yesterday after work so it should be ready to go with the latex. I also want to get started on the monster head and neck which I’m making separately to the rest of the body (the body is the hill).
Busy day today :) But it’s great coz I got a new desk this week from Ikea so now I have somewhere to work that’s not the kitchen table! *YAY*
